I noticed last night that Joe Mauer of the Twins drove in 2 runs on a single sacrifice fly; how common is such an event?

even though I feel safe in saying this shouldn't have been asked here - I will give a reply - ESPN says that the Twins say the last time this was done was....05/08/2001 CIN V ARI - When you look at the box though, you'll see that something else stands out big time about that game which makes the 2 R SF appear a little less impressive.

Happy birthday, SOTD, and many happy returns.

Prior to that it happened in 1997 and 1996.
On a related note: Here is the last player to get a sacrifice fly even though he didn't bat with a runner on 3rd.

I wonder if this is a mistake.

Did Giambi actually knock in Velarde from first?
Or did Velarde actually advance in the previous at-bat on the play at the plate?
Anybody know?

Raphy,
There must either be an error in the box score, or maybe Bernie was injured on the play (but he stayed in the game).
The fielder was Bernie Williams, so it wouldn't surprise me if the runner scored from first on his arm!

There's a mistake in the game log. After singling, Velarde advanced to 2nd on the throw home, and then to 3rd when Posada fought with Phillips after their collision.
I tried posting this a few times but it won't show up for some reason. I wonder if it has something to do with my trying to paste a link. I am leaving the link out, but you can look up the NY Times game story for 8/12/99.
