TK note #5: Trivia
Here's some nice trivia, courtesy of Tim Kurkjian. Rickey Henderson, Cleon Jones, Hal Chase, and Hick Carpenter are the only 4 players to play 1000 games and what?
(Bizarrely, Steve posted on this EXACT subject yesterday even though he and I didn't discuss it at all.)

Bat right and throw left.
I did my own unscientific search and found 10 1B, 26 OF and 419 pitchers. I wonder if a brain scan on all of them would yield as delightful findings as I would expect one on Rickey would reveal?

Rube Bressler played 1305 games, BR, TL. Johnny Cooney played 1172. What gives?

Not sure, Gerry. I don't have the book in front of me and I can't remember why they didn't make Kurkjian's list. Perhaps it was just from the last 50 years. I'm sure he didn't overlook them--maybe I did.

If it was just from the last 50 years, he wouldn't list Hal Chase & Hick Carpenter.
Maybe Bressler & Cooney are ruled out because each was a pitcher for part of his career.
Or maybe the author just goofed - it wouldn't be the first time a baseball trivia book had mistakes in it.

Well--whatever the case, let's not blame it on TK!
