I remember it was a Yankee home game against the Royals. I remember I was told it was the first night game in the new Yankee Stadium. I remember in the first inning a Yankee hit a triple, but was later out at third on another play. I remember Lou Piniella was hitting .500 and everyone was LOUUUUing him. I remember a Royal hit a home run, and the the Yankees lost. I also remember my dad taking me to buy a souvenir, and how miffed he was when I said I wanted an A's hat because I liked the colors. So, here's how I found the game in BR. First, to the New York Yankees Attendance, Stadiums and Park Factors page to see what year the Yankees came back to Yankee Stadium. Answer: 1976. Then to the "Gamelogs: Bat" for the 1976 Yankees. Then to the first home games against KCR (April 23 and April 24). And there it is April 23. Roy White hit a triple in the first inning and was then out on a fielder's choice! Just as I remembered. Buck Martinez hit the go-ahead HR for the Royals, just as I remembered. Then looking at Lou Piniella's 1976 batting game log, sure enough, he was hitting .520 going into the game. I'll never forget the sound of 30,000 people LOOOOOOUing.
