A recent roster trend seems to be carrying more pitchers. 50 years ago (and maybe much more recently, too) it was pretty standard to get by with 10 pitchers for most of the season. Now, with more pitchers on the roster, a team really needs a few guys who can play almost anywhere. (And pity the poor catchers; since there's almost never a #3, a manager is very reluctant ever to remove his starter and leave the bench bare.)

Why teams have to have more pitchers on the roster is another matter.

But notice how many of the multi-versatile guys come in the last 8 years.

You didn't misinterpret my goal, just coming at it from a different direction. I haven't clicked on your link yet, but I'm sure Tony Phillips in 1988 makes that list.

Interesting list, Andy.
Am I misinterpreting your goal? If you want to find players that played at least 2 games at every position, wouldn't you be better off with the following search http://www.bb-ref.com/pi/shareit/m3wE By setting the minimum to 100 games, you have eliminated 11 players who have played 2 games at each of those positions in a season.
