Most Bases Loaded Walks

Posted by Sean Forman on August 29, 2007

A user asked me about Pat Burrell and his bases loaded walks, so I figured, why not check the most ever in a season. Eventually, I want to allow users to search the splits, but that is a little ways off.

  1. That one IBB for Bonds with the bases loaded was quite memorable. That was when Buck Showalter, then-manager of Arizona, walked Bonds in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs, with Arizona ahead 8-6. It made the score 8-7 but brought up Brent Mayne instead, who made the final out.

    The box score is here:

Brent Mayne has had a few interesting claims to fame in his career, including being the most recent (I believe) non-pitcher to get a decision in a game. The Rockies were forced to use him as a pitcher in this game:

...and he ended up getting the win!

  2. Four current Yankee starters (Arod, Posada, Abreu and Jeter) are on that career list.

  3. Burrell just came up with the bases loaded, but he hit a sac fly. Better off walking!
