Posted by Raphy on April 20, 2009

Here's a curiosity more than anything else. The players with most games with a hit  in their teams first 10 games over the last 5 years:

                   Games Link to Individual Games
+-----------------+-----+-------------------------+
 David Wright 40 Ind. Games
 Vernon Wells 40 Ind. Games
 Jose Reyes 40 Ind. Games
 Carlos Beltran 39 Ind. Games
 Jason Bay 39 Ind. Games

5 players have hit in at least 39 of the 50 games and 3 of them have been Mets.

  1. And how did the Mets fare in the previous four seasons? In those first 10 games each season they posted a 25-15 (.625) record (5-5 this year). They finished those four seasons a combined 357-291 (.551) - one division title, two chokes, and a third place finish. Starting off fast doesn't necessarily win the marathon of a baseball season. Just compare Ryan Howard's numbers over the course of a season with Jose Reyes' - especially the last two years.
